Living With Male Factor Infertility as a Couple

Introduction

Welcome to last episode in this series of The Male Fertility Podcast! It has been quite an adventure for both Shaun and Ciaran. From talking about the initial diagnosis to fatherhood, the lads have talked about a variety of different things and now to finish this series of, they are joined by their lovely wives, Jennifer and Jenna.

The Partner Perspective

Jennifer and Jenna talk about what it was like from their perspective as Ciaran and Shaun were going through their fertility story. Jennifer talks about her own fertility story, and attending appointments without Ciaran. On the other side, Jenna talks about how she attended all the appointments with Shaun and the group reflect on how differently they were treated even though they were all going through it together as couples.

The wives discuss how helpless they felt at times as their husbands struggled with their diagnosis, and how they tried to support them.

Education and Fertility

Together, they all talk about how little they were unaware of infertility and the lack of knowledge they had going into the world of fertility. Ciaran talks about sex education and how it can be glossed over.

Finding Support and Communication

Jenna talks about the lack of support for male factor online, things like social media accounts and websites. She goes on to say that there is a lot of advice for women but not as much for men.

They then later talk about communicating with each other and how important it is to talk to one another and have those difficult conversations. Shaun and Ciaran talk about how grateful they are for Jennifer and Jenna, they also talk about the support that they got from friends and family.
